Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres
The tragedy of Francesca da Rimini and Paolo Malatesta was described by Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy. Reading the furtive loves of Lancelot and Guinevere set the tone of passion, which would end in tragedy. Paolo was the brother of Gianciotto (Giovanni Malatesta), who found them in a random conversation and failed to assess the marital betrayal. Six centuries later, the French painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres left so his testimony.
